About

Marco-profile-pic.jpg

Born in Asolo, in northern Italy, Marco Baldisser is an artist and master artisan based in Aotearoa New Zealand. His practice brings Venetian plaster and traditional Italian surface techniques into contemporary artworks, exploring the relationship between material, geometry and light.

Trained under Italian master Paolo Bellò, Marco developed his understanding of plaster through disciplined practice and direct engagement with its possibilities.
Through Artemani Surfaces, he has applied this knowledge to architectural and interior projects, creating bespoke mineral finishes informed by their surroundings. His independent studio practice extends that experience into reliefs and objects, giving surface a depth and structure of its own.

Working with plaster, marble powders, pigments and gilded elements, Marco brings tactile variation into dialogue with precise forms. Recesses, edges and changes of plane invite close attention, allowing each work to shift with the light and the viewer’s position.

His practice continues to evolve in Aotearoa, carrying its Italian material heritage into a different landscape and architectural context.

Veneto / Heritage

Marco’s connection to material begins in Veneto, where plaster, stone and pigment are part of the spaces of everyday life. His work draws on an attention to surfaces: how they are made, how they meet, and how they change with light and time.

Polished planes, worn edges and layered finishes offer a vocabulary of texture and depth.

This inheritance remains present in his practice, informing both the precision of his forms and the variations that make each surface authentic.
